Here’s the closest I got to deleting my account

10 Oct

Here’s what I did. I followed their instructions to delete all my personal info with wordpress and with gravatar. But even after that they’ll still have your username and email address. So I changed my username to something like…noaccount. And I used a fake email service on the web to change my email address. I used Now presumably they’ll not have my email address and name.

You may have come to the realization that WordPress wont let you delete your account for whatever reason. And if you’ve gone through the forums, you may have found out that it can get pretty heated sometimes. People get defensive, and I fell into that category too. The forum leaders can get irritated too. Even a forum leader there told me that the staff will still have your original username if you follow my directions.

Now I don’t know the specific reason for them not letting you delete your account. Apparently many websites keep your original information in their database, but just close it from public. Why they do this I don’t know. I assume it can be database reasons, or financial profit reasons. Maybe wordpress doesn’t do it because they want to be honest and not pretend their deleting your account like other websites.

I tried to do it because I decided to look up my name on google in parenthesis. And I found a whole bunch of websites I signed up to that I didn’t use. So I went through the process of cancelling them. Pandora, Myspace, and LinkedIn let me do this no hassle. WordPress said if you are finding this difficult then to ask in their forum. So I did, and it turned to craziness. I was too demanding at first, and that probably ticked off some forum moderators.

But my point is still clear. Just let us delete our account like all the other websites do!

The only reason I have this blog, is because I can’t delete my account. And sometimes its a pet peeve of mine to have something that I don’t use. So since I have to have this account I’ll make this blog. I find it very ironic that I’m posting this topic with this domain!
